Will there be a Google Nexus Two after all? – Update

The next Google phone will be a Samsung and similar to the 4-inch Galaxy S smartphone – if rumours that have been spreading for a few days are to be believed. Google and Samsung allegedly intend to present this phone on the 8th of November – at an event where Google plans to release details on the next version of Android, code named “Gingerbread” (which may be version number 2.3 instead of 3.0, after all). Although only last July Google CEO Eric Schmidt had said that there would be no Nexus Two.

The Nexus One was Google’s first attempt to directly sell its own contract-free phone (initially only via its online store). However, the attempt failed as it turned out that large quantities can only be sold via the mobile network providers – in the UK, users can purchase the phone from mobile network operator Vodafone. Google has since started to offer the Nexus One on a small scale as a developer device, which has the main advantage that the phone receives new Android version updates faster than other smartphones do.

Update: Speaking to Korean website Damawa, Saumsung has now denied the rumors that it is building the Nexus Two.
