HTC’s G2 gets rooted in record time

This is just the obligatory post for any new Android device that gets its root on. It looks like our beloved XDA-Developers have gotten their hands on a G2 and already have rooted the little guy.

The root as of now is not “sticky” meaning that after a reboot the phone will be un-rooted, but it’s really only a matter of time before there is a fix for that. As of now there is no “one-click” method for rooting. The root procedure for the G2 is done by command line and doesn’t look too terribly difficult. If you are used to rooting devices “the hard way” then this root will be pretty simple for you. Always remember though that rooting could screw up your phone or even brick it.

With the G2 being rooted expect to see all of the root apps being able to be used on the new device. This will fix the problem that T-Mobile made of not letting users use the tethering feature built into Android 2.2 as allowing root access can enable these features once they are made available. It’s just another lesson to carriers and manufacturers that release devices with open source software — if there is a will there is a way to hack your phone and make it work the way that you want!
