Screen shots of Symbian^4 develop

The Symbian Foundation has released some pictures of screen shots belonging to Symbian^4. The pictures were posted on the Symbian developer Wiki page and shows redesigned app categories, widgets, search, analog and digital clocks, pop-up menu and a numeric touch pad. It will probably be early in 2011 when Symbian^4 makes its debut on some of Nokia’s low to mid-range handsets, assuming that MeeGo has captured the high-end releases. The pictures were included on the site along with some source code. Besides Nokia, we could see the OS on some devices manufactured by Sony Ericsson and Samsung. Appearing to be more finger friendly than past operating systems, the Foundation is in the same situation that RIM was in about a year ago. Both had outdated operating systems not designed for touchscreens. RIM, as we reported, has developed BlackBerry 6 which is a very finger friendly OS expected to ship later this year, possibly when the touchscreen/slider BlackBerry 9800 launches via AT&T. Now, Symbian is counting on Symbian^4 to do the same thing which is basically to close the gap between itself and the Android and iOS platforms.
